Sydney Hunter & Alex Hazard

Sydney Hunter is a senior Digital Marketing major at James Madison University. She has always loved painting, and has come to appreciate how her art created community and impacted the people she loves. Sydney typically paints the things that mean the most to her, including places she’s traveled, people and pets, or ideologies to incorporate in her life. Her paid work is typically commissioned by family and friends, but most often, she finds herself painting in response to something that challenges her to think more deeply and express internal findings creatively. She loves starting with an idea and problem-solving her way to a beautiful and cohesive solution. Alex Hazard A senior at James Madison University, Alex Hazard has been painting for six years. He works with surrealist portraiture and cubist abstraction of human figures, using contrasting colors to emphasize emotion and abrupt linework to create movement. Alex recognizes the power of art to both unite and tear people apart by bringing issues to the foreground. He seeks creative solutions and is inspired by artists Andrew Salgado and Simon Birch, as well as Paul Cézanne and Francis Bacon.
