HCPS Elementary Students, with Tamara Grant & Brooke Imber

This Art Door project involved a number of Harrisonburg City Public Schools elementary students, under the direction of artists Tamara Grant and Brooke Imber. Originally from North Carolina, Tamara Grant moved to Virginia with her husband in 2006. Although art has always been a passion, Tamara has started consistent practice in the last seven years. Her mixed media landscapes are inspired by valley views. A mother of two, she dedicates much of her time to the support and advocacy of local children from financially strained homes. Brooke Imber moved from Jersey to Virginia in 2013 to study art education and psychology at JMU. Brooke creates wire-wrapped jewelry and loves to photograph moments of bliss whether it be playful dogs in the woods, landscapes, or musicians. She began teaching choice-based art at Keister Elementary in the beginning of the pandemic and has become passionate about inviting kids to explore creatively in the school nature trail.

City of Ships

Harrisonburg, a refugee resettlement area, is a city of the world. Our city school children created and curated this art and treasure, giving us insight into who they are and the adults they will become.
