THE ARTS COUNCIL OF THE VALLEY SEEKS AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Executive Director, Arts Council:  The Arts Council of the Valley, based in Harrisonburg, VA, seeks a full-time Executive Director.  The Arts Council of the Valley is a 501 (C) 3 organization established in 2000 to promote arts and culture in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, home to 115,000 residents and the location for two universities, one college, and one community college. Harrisonburg is conveniently located within a two hour drive of Washington D.C.

The director is responsible for building community and arts alliances by promoting the arts as fundamental to a vibrant community. The director is also responsible for stimulating the community’s participation in the arts through rich and diverse cultural opportunities. Additional responsibilities include administering a re-granting program, developing the council’s donor and volunteer base, overseeing publicity and planning for special events and exhibitions, fostering arts education initiatives, and managing the operation of the council and its facilities. The director also will supervise a full-time manager of a 260-seat theater, a part-time program manager, a part-time fundraiser, and a contract accountant. 

The successful candidate must be an articulate advocate for the arts in the community and should demonstrate strong office administration, financial management and reporting skills.  Experience in public relations, delegating responsibility, and a proven track record of successful grant writing and fundraising is expected.

A master’s degree in the arts or arts administration with strong business/team building management skills is required.
