FIRST FRIDAYS DOWNTOWN

First Fridays Downtown is an exciting monthly event that came to life in 2009 when Arts Council of the Valley, together with partners Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance, the Virginia Quilt Museum, and Harrisonburg Tourism, saw an opportunity to greatly expand on the biannual downtown “Art and Gallery Walk.”  Initially held only from April to October and involving 15 retail shops, restaurants, galleries and museums, this event has expanded to all 12 first Fridays of the month and involves over 30 participating venues throughout downtown Harrisonburg.

Our downtown is now positively buzzing on these evenings, when arts-loving visitors and locals stroll the streets and musicians, visual, literary, and culinary artists entertain and enlighten. One of the anchor venues for First Fridays Downtown is the Smith House Galleries, the Arts Council's visual arts space.  The Gallery has presented over 65 month-long art exhibitions by some of the area's leading artists. A new exhibition opens on each First Friday, and the Arts Council celebrates with refreshments, music, fellowship - and great art.  STAY CONNECTED WITH FFDT FACEBOOK!
